On March 12, 2021, Thailand Toray Science Foundation (TTSF) held 26th and 27th award and grants for science and technology research presentation ceremony at Bangkok Marriott The Surawong Hotel. This year was held combining 2 years due to the Covid situation, which prevented us from holding an awards presentation ceremony last year.

Same as every year, General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council, was the Guest of Honor of the Ceremony, along with Mr. Kazuya Nashida, the Ambassador of Japan to Thailand; and Professor Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, the Chairman of TTSF. And due to the Covid situation, the President of Toray Industries Inc., Mr. Akihiro Nikkaku, was unable to attend the event, so he sent a video message to congratulate the laureates.

With an intention of TTSF to promote and support scientific and technological research for the development and progress of Thailand, TTSF presents awards and grants in 3 categories as follows:

 

Science and Technology Awards The winners of the individual category include Prof. Dr. Sakamon Devahastin (26th Year) and Prof. Dr. Navadol Laosiripojana (27th Year) from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. The winners in the institute category include the Center of Excellence in Fungal Research, Mae Fah Luang University (26th Year) and the Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program, Ministry of Public Health (HITAP) (27th Year). Combining 2 years, there are 4 awards, totally 1.6 Million Baht.

 

Science and Technology Research Grants 42 science and technology research grants, totally 8 Million Baht, divided into 19 agricultural and biology projects, 8 chemistry projects, 6 physics projects and 9 engineering projects.

 

Science Education Awards There are 15 awards, totally 1.315 Million Baht, divided into junior high school of 590,000 Baht and senior high school of 725,000 Baht.

TTSF awarded a total of 10.15 Million Baht for these 2 years. During the 27 years of operation, TTSF has awarded Science and Technology Awards for 54 persons, Science and Technology Research Grants for 488 projects and awards to scientific teachers for 234 persons, consider as the total value of 140 Million Baht.

Award Recipient Representatives, Prof. Dr. Navadol Laosiripojana thanked TTSF for its continuing to value Thailand’s science and technology research personnel, and that the award will be a pride and encouragement for research personnel to drive further research in creating academic excellence and benefit parts of Thailand in the future.

General Surayud Chulanont, President of Privy Council praised activities of TTSF in supporting and promoting Thailand’s advancement in science and technology. Lastly, as a commemorating, he took photos with the laureates.
